Hire a Cleaner for your Ski Vacation Home

It's your family's winter ritual. Every Friday after school, you pack up the car and drive up to Mount Snow - or your ski resort of choice. You leave the busy city life behind and feel bubbling excitement as you cross over the Vermont state border and find yourself surrounded by the winding roads and swirling fog. You pull into the driveway of your ski home, ready for a weekend of hot cocoa, mountain vistas, fresh powder and board games.

But then, there's that moment when you open the door and remember that last Sunday, when you raced out of the house in a rush to get back, you left things somewhat less than tidy. Smelly socks are piled up in the mudroom. The milk in your fridge has gone sour. (Was that ice cream from this Christmas, or last?)

No One Wants to Spend the Weekend Cleaning

Arriving home to a messy house is never fun, and isn't the whole point of your second home to enjoy? Luckily, there's an easy fix to this problem. Hire a cleaning service and in an instant, for less than the cost of date night, you can arrive each Friday to a clean, organized home.

Tempted?

Of course you are. But then you start wondering how to find someone you can trust. Who will you feel comfortable handing your keys to? Will they be able to clean our your fridge and remake the kids beds? If you find a good cleaning and organizing service - they will. Because a good cleaner should know that you don't just need carpets vacuumed and tubs cleaned - you hire them to help your home feel more warm, welcoming and enjoyable to be in.

I've been working as a professional cleaner and organizer for many years in Mount Snow Valley and I see this all the time. Oftentimes, families are most grateful when I fold the laundry, wipe out the refrigerator shelves or reorganize the linen closet. These are the touches that don't just make their house cleaner - they improve quality of life.

How Do You Find a Trustworthy House Cleaner in Your "Second" Town?

Finding a great house cleaner for your second home can be tricky - check out my tips for choosing a cleaning service for some ideas on how to find a house cleaner you can trust. Take a bit of time to look around because you will be so glad you did!

To find a trustworthy cleaning person, ask the locals. Looks for the name of someone who lives in the area and can easily pop over to your vacation home during the week. The same house cleaner can also become a great reference for you, helping you know where to eat, shop and get your car fixed in the area.

You want a house cleaner who is willing to go the extra mile. Do they clean and organize? Will they be glad to pick up a gallon of milk for your fridge? Will they make the with fresh linens? Will they take your trash to your dump? As a professional house cleaner and organize, I try to give each of my clients the services that best meet their needs.

Interview potential house cleaners and be sure to ask them about these services. As with so many things in life, a good house cleaner is in the details - especially when it's for your second home, a home that may be empty for much of the year.
